In Canada, action has been taken following attention to sexist behaviour in parliament:
A new code of conduct for MPs is in place in Parliament, aimed at addressing misconduct or harassment on the Hill, including a pledge that's now been signed by 337 Members.
The leadership role of the Prime Minister is acknowledged:
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (Papineau, Que.) has shown leadership on addressing harassment and sexism, said Ms. Fry, from appointing a gender-equal cabinet, to pushing last Parliament to investigate allegations of harassment against two then-Liberal MPs, to 'looking at changing the way that Parliament works in order to accommodate young families with children,' referring to the Procedure and House Affairs Committee’s ongoing study of family-friendly initiatives for the House of Commons.
While there may be more to do, these initiatives sound a lot better than dismissing bad behaviour as part of the 'rough and tumble' of politics.
