First Aboriginal woman elected to parliament: looks to contest federal seat

Linda Burney retires from the NSW state parliament and is set to contest a federal seat.

Ms Burney, a former cabinet minister and deputy Labor leader, appears headed for Canberra after nearly 13 years of state politics. She is a strong favourite to win the seat of Barton at the upcoming federal election.
Ms Burney was the first Aboriginal woman elected to parliament.
